Dance Class Guidelines/Tips and Class Descriptions 2024-2025

Age 2.5-3.5 Ballet/Gymnastics - 45 Minutes

*Must be 2.5 by the first day of classes.

In this class, students will learn physical coordination through ballet and gymnastics. This class also promotes positive social experiences such as: making friends, speaking, singing, taking turns, and following one step direction instruction. This class is designed for children who are experiencing one of their first times away from their grown-ups and are looking forward to having fun with friends. Diapers and potty-trainers are welcome, but please remember to stay close by in the lobby when we hear those magic words! We are happy to encourage the potty training process, but cannot always assist when there is a full dance class.

When in this class, we understand that this is often one of the first times that a dancer is away from his or her grown-up, so there will be an adjustment period. Becoming acclimated to new people and surroundings is a big deal for a little person! However, there are times when the dancer is unable to adjust and may not be ready for a dance class.

Reasons a child may not be ready for dance at this time:

  • The child cries inconsolably every week.
  • The child tries to leave the room constantly looking for his or her grown-up.
  • The child has trouble communicating with the teacher.
  • There are also times when a dancer who usually has no trouble coming to dance may show reluctance. This is okay!!! Even the smallest thing may upset the balance of a little friend's day!

Reasons your dancer may not want to come to class today:

  • The dancer is tired from an earlier activity or just woke up from a nap.
  • The dancer is hungry.
  • The dancer does not have their shoes or special dance outfit.
  • A different grown-up brought the dancer to class today.
  • There is a change at home.
  • The dancer is just having an off day!

We understand each of these circumstances, and we hope that you and your dancer can work through them. However, if your dancer is unable to come into the room successfully, it is okay to go home and try again next week! “Crying it out” is okay for a few minutes, but we do not want the child to develop negative feelings towards class. Happiness and positivity only!

Their gymnastics guidelines are designed to create a learning environment to set your child up for success. It is not unusual for a child to be placed in a certain level of gymnastics for several years since there are so many skills to learn in the sport of gymnastics. Our first priority is placing your child in the appropriate gymnastics class for skills and safety.
